We had the absolute pleasure of capturing an amazing elopement for an incredible couple, Shelby & Jacob. This wasn't just any elopement, it was an Outlander-themed elopement in the beautiful location of Banner Elk, North Carolina! Shelby & Jacob are huge fans of the show Outlander, so much so that it has become a significant part of their relationship. The show is a huge part of their love story that they decided it should be a major part of their wedding too! We had initially planned to elope with them in Scotland, the setting of much of the show. However, we changed plans and chose North Carolina, another significant location in the series.

Shelby & Jacob’s Outlander Themed Elopement

Shelby & Jacob found a stunning Airbnb, Mast Farm Inn, that looked as though it was plucked straight from the show. I'd never seen Outlander before this elopement, but after getting a taste of it through Shelby & Jacob's passion, I'm now a HUGE fan! North Carolina is breathtaking in the fall, with trees changing to vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds. This made the setting even more special and dream-like. The day began at their cabin at the Mast Farm Inn, a building that dates back to 1792, fitting perfectly with the Outlander theme. The real theme from the show that inspired this day was the love story between Jamie & Claire, and the closeness they shared. This made complete sense after meeting Shelby & Jacob, who share a similar deep bond.

A memorable moment was their first look at the property by a pond. As Shelby tapped Jacob's shoulder, he turned around, and golden leaves started falling around them, I’m not even kidding! It felt surreal and was genuinely one of those magical moments that feel like it's out of a dream. Before their ceremony, we decided to have a little adventure in the nearby Grandfather Mountain, another significant location in the series. The park is stunning and well worth a visit! The ceremony took place along a river, with Shelby and Jacob exchanging heartfelt vows that had us all in tears. After they said, "I do" and shared a passionate first kiss, they celebrated with Pbj's and a first dance in the golden light by the river. As the sun set, we headed to one last lookout before returning to the farm for dessert and cake cutting!
